A Story of Strength in Vulnerability

We all have dreams that feel fragile—whether it’s chasing a career, starting a business, or pursuing something deeply personal. The fear of rejection, self-doubt, or the pressure of time can weigh heavily, making us question if it’s worth it. But the truth is, no matter the journey, the act of trying keeps those dreams alive.

When I was a kid, I had a comfort object (as I'm sure a lot of us did)—a toy that became part of me. For my niece, Gaia, it’s her smelly little rabbit she calls “Bibbit.” Bibbit is her safe place, her constant companion, the thing she hugs tight even when life gets messy. We’ve all had something like that—a blanky, a pillow, a toy. It’s funny how much love and wear these simple things endure because we need them, flaws and all.

That’s what Acting has been for me—a Bibbit of sorts. My career is the thing I’ve clung to through every high and low, every twist of self-doubt and rejection. It’s brought me comfort, purpose, and even frustration—but it’s been mine. And yet, two years ago, I almost let go of it.

I’ve been lucky to act in shows like Code of Law, Tanglin, and Sunny Side Up, and on platforms like Netflix and MeWatch. But I’ve always dreamed of more—roles that challenge stereotypes, push my craft, and connect me with artists around the world. So, I took the leap: I got an international agent, started auditioning overseas, and dared to dream bigger.

What came next wasn’t a Hollywood fairytale. It was harder than I imagined. Bigger competition, more rejections, and a brutal reminder of how uncertain this path is.

Sometimes, I got so close to a breakthrough that the rejection felt worse than failure—it felt like betrayal. And then there was the noise. People saying, “Acting has a lifespan.” “You’re getting older.” Those words sank deep, and I spiraled.

I thought about quitting. About what it would mean to give up something I’ve pursued my entire life, and I let the self-doubt win for a while. But then, in one of my darker moments, I thought about the people who inspire me: Singaporean actors like Lim Yu Beng and Tan Kheng Hua, who broke boundaries later in life. I also remembered my dad’s simple advice: “If you love it, just do it.”

My husband reminded me of something just as important: quitting guarantees failure. As long as I keep going, I’m still in the game. Whether I reach my ultimate goal or not, the worst thing I can do is stop trying.

And so, I’m holding on to my Bibbit—my acting career, messy, unpredictable, and full of love. Because life isn’t about guarantees; it’s about the courage to keep pursuing what makes us whole.

“The years teach much which the days never know.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

Age isn’t a limitation; it’s the story you write with time. And as long as you keep holding on to your Bibbit, you’re still writing.

So keep going, because your dream deserves a chance to live.

Let 'Bibbit', drawn by my bestie Marlon (the Voiceover Artist)'s wife, Froggy, be your daily reminder to hold on to what matters most. I even have it tattooed on my arm as a symbol of the dark period I went through and overcame. Own it, and keep chasing what sets your soul on fire.

Do it because it 'Makes You Smile'.

Love, Cait
